02/11/2010 - The Sleep Revolution

Dear Nikken Friends,

I vividly remember my very first Wellness Preview.  Many years of my life had already been invested with three different and now defunct companies; and so it was very important to learn that Nikken was a solid billion-dollar Japanese Company.

Much of the presentation was about sleeping on magnets!  I learned about                Dr. Nakagawa and his published paper titled “Magnetic Deficiency Syndrome”.   It was fascinating to hear stories of hospitals in Japan that actually used magnets in the beds of patients.  At the end of the presentation, I saw my first “Kenko Pad”.  Back then, all the products were imported from Japan.  I noticed that embroidered right into the Kenko Pad cover was the registered medical license number of the Japanese Ministry of Health.  WOW!  I was told that although this sleep pad was recognized as a therapy device in Japan we couldn’t make any medical claims in this country.  Still, I made certain everyone noticed this most impressive and official looking embroidered pattern!

And I still remember my first rollout.  I felt something wonderful, and the good feeling lasted for a couple of days.  Next, I ordered a couple of pads and we launched our business.  I was out all the time, letting people try that pad.

Healthy sleep has been empirically proven to be the single most important determinant in predicting longevity, more important than diet, exercise or heredity...” William Dement, MD, PhD

The above quote has deeply affected me.  It has been going through my mind since the Naturest presentation at our convention.

I loaned a new friend a Naturest pad and he and his wife slept on it the last two nights.  I called him this morning and surprise…They love it!  He stated that although he and his wife really don’t have any sleeping problems or health concerns, they both enjoyed a deeper and more restful sleep. Everyone needs sleep.  Lack of good sleep is epidemic and is connected with almost every single malady.  Our entire bodies metabolism is dependant upon how well we sleep.  Just imagine the accumulative benefits you will accrue through receiving a Naturest perfect nights sleep every single day!

And we are not in competition with Select Comfort, Temperpedic, or Serta, etc.  Even if they just bought a brand new mattress, they still need Naturest.   Naturest is the necessary adjunct to complete their perfect sleep system.  EVERYONE NEEDS NATUREST!  What an exciting position to be in.

In anticipation of blockbuster sales, Nikken is working with our original manufacturer of the Rubberthane pads to get them up to speed for supplying Naturest latex pads as a backup.  I believe Naturest is the closest thing to a product that everyone in the world truly needs.  So far this appears to be a 100% customer satisfaction product!

I’m going to be out there doing rollouts and letting people try Naturest.  This is my new very favorite product and it’s what I’m talking about.  This is what made me millions before and this will earn millions for those of you who decide to hustle!

Be part of the sleep revolution!

I’m excited to have you on our team.

PS  Do you take Success Magazine!  I want to share a great idea from this magazine:

Yes Is the Destination; No is How You Get there…

You wouldn’t think one simple word with two tiny letters could have the power to keep countless individuals and organizations from realizing their goals and dreams.  But it does, day after day, year after year.  What two tiny letters can do all that?

N. O. No.

For many people, the word no is a brick wall standing between them and success.  We polled hundreds of business professionals about their fears and motivations and the results were astounding:

-       51 percent said their biggest fear is that the customer will say “no” and reject them.

-       38 percent said the willingness to face rejection is the No. 1 quality of a great salesperson.

The impact of fear of failure and rejection upon individual and team performance cannot be ignored.  But what if, starting today, the word no stopped stopping you?  What if every time you heard the word no you became stronger, more powerful and more resilient?  And what if it turned out that the greatest success strategy in the world was not to focus on increasing your success at all, but to intentionally increase the number of times you fail?

In truth, the word no doesn’t have to be debilitating.  In fact, learning to intentionally hear the word no more often can empower you to achieve a whole-new level of greatness you never dreamed possible.

Steps for Turning No into a Powerful Positive

Here are ways to shift the word no from being a momentum stopper to being a powerful positive in your career and your life.

Change your mental model of success and failure.
Most people operate with the following mental model of success and failure:

SUCCESS (“Yes”) <<<< YOU >>>> FAILURE (“No”)
They see themselves in the middle, with success (a “yes” from the customer) on one end and failure (a “no” from the customer) on the other.  As a result, they spend every waking moment trying to achieve success and avoiding failure.  But to be successful in life, you don’t get to choose one or the other.  You have to choose both!

The fact is, failure has gotten a dirty rap because most people simply think of success as good and failure as bad - complete opposites of one another.  But they’re not.  Yes and no are not opposites; they’re companions - one the hero, the other the sidekick.  But, like in the movies, the hero tends to get all the glory, while the sidekick gets stuck tending to the hero’s horse.

To achieve sustainable success, the model should look like this:

YOU >>>> FAILURE (“No”) >>>> SUCCESS (“Yes)
Top performers understand failure is not an obstacle but actually a steppingstone on the path to success.  To reach your full potential, you must stop thinking of success and failure as being opposites, and instead merge them into the yin and yang they really are - opposite sides of the same coin that rely and depend on one another.  Rid yourself of the notion that your choice is success or failure because the choice is always success and failure.
